Position
Title:  Coordinator of First Year Experience/Academic Advisor
Description:  The Coordinator of First Year Experience and Academic
Advisor is responsible to the Director of the Center for
Student Learning and Development Services. Although the
specific duties listed below illustrate the essential
functions of this title, this position also serves as a
member of the Center for Learning and Student Development
Services team and performs the following departmental
duties as a team member:

• Provide academic advisement across the curriculum
for all students (About 50% of time)
• Schedule tutoring appointments.
• Administer and interpret placement and ability to
benefit tests.
• Provide information to students, faculty, parents
and guidance counselors about the array of services offered
by the Center for Learning and Student Development Services
and other academic support areas.

Responsibilities:

• Coordinate with the Division of Professional
Studies the development of the master schedule with regard
to Freshman Seminar; develop Freshman Seminar course
outlines, train faculty and staff to ensure course
uniformity and assign students to either the one or three
credit Freshman Seminar course.
• Evaluate all freshman experience programs, and make
recommendations for improvement.
• Design and implement a mentoring program(s) for
first year students, in conjunction with Title III and
other offices.
• Advocate for college staff, students and faculty to
assure accommodations or service as prescribed by Title IX
and ADA, plus, in conjunction with Learning Services
Assistant, act as liaison with community agencies and
campus offices in providing services and accommodations to
students with disabilities
• Monitor and authorize payments from Freshman
Seminar fees for course activities, including leadership
and mediation programs.
• Instruct students on how to access information
(grades, schedule etc.) and register using the College web
site.
• Coordinate with Residence Hall and Student Affairs
staff orientation programs for all students (i.e., those in
the Residence Hall, first time and non-traditional
students.)
• Provide direct services and referrals to other
campus services for the students regarding study skills,
tutoring, financial difficulties, counseling etc.
• Work closely with all offices on campus, especially
the academic divisions and student services, as related to
advisement, academic program requirements, mentoring,
course schedules, and campus events as well as participate
in the college advisement events such as but not limited to
advising sessions both on and off-campus (e.g., high
schools, malls, and other sites as needed) on evenings and
weekends.

Requirements
Education:
  Master's Degree Preferred
Work Experience:
  3-5 Years
