Graduate Positions in Residence Life
Description:
The Department of Residence Life is pleased to announce
that several graduate level positions are available at
Salem State College. Working with the full-time Resident
Directors in a variety of roles, these positions assist in
managing the residence halls, advising student
organizations, supervising staff, and coordinating
programmatic initiatives.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A Bachelor’s degree and acceptance into a graduate program
of studies at Salem State College (preferred Education or
Counseling-related program) is required prior to starting
the position in July. Must be a full-time matriculated
student throughout employment, depending upon program
requirements/class availability. Candidates should also
display a commitment to community development and
programming, have an understanding and familiarity with
students from diverse backgrounds, and have past leadership
experience in a college/university residence life setting.
POSITION SPECIFICS:
This is a 12-month, 1-year (renewable) position.
Compensation includes tuition, fees, room and board (while
dining halls are open), and a stipend of $10 per hour for
18 hours of office time per week. On-campus housing is
provided, as graduate student staff are expected to live on
campus for the duration of their employment. One position
may have a live-off option with slightly increased stipend;
please share this interest in your cover letter. These
positions are classified as O-3 Institutional, part-time
employees. Specific position assignments are determined
after the interview process is complete and through the
offer process.
Depending on the position, responsibilities may include:
*Co-supervise student staff with full-time Resident
Directors; conduct weekly one-on-one meetings with student
staff.
*Coordinate student staff meetings.
*Oversee the management of a 24-hour front desk including
the supervision, and evaluation of 12-18 front desk
receptionists.
* Coordinate the development of programs and activities
within the residence hall; work with the Resident Assistant
staff to develop a program vision, implement quality
programs, and track programmatic efforts.
*Serve as a hearing officer for judicial cases as
determined
by the Resident Director and the Assistant Dean of Student
Life.
* Develop a working relationship with faculty participating
in the Faculty in Residence Program, and assist in the
development and implementation of academic-related programs
within the community
For all positions, responsibilities include:
*Maintain appropriate office hours as determined by
supervisor.
* Be familiar with the functions of and opportunities
available through various campus support services.
* Assist with student and professional staff selection
processes.
* Attend weekly professional staff meetings, and individual
meetings with supervisor.
* Attend weekly building staff meetings as needed.
* Participate in the professional staff on-call duty
rotation, including holidays and breaks throughout the
year, as able (must retain full-time student status to
serve on duty.)
* Participate in an annual evaluation process with
supervisor.
* Assist with departmental projects as assigned, including
the coordination of specific projects over the course of
the summer.
* Abide by all Residence Life and College policies while
residing on-campus, and report any violations or concerns
to the appropriate staff.
* Participate in Professional Staff and student staff
training each semester by presenting or attending relevant
sessions.
