ADMISSIONS OFFICER AND COUNSELOR-IN-RESIDENCE - Undergraduate Admissions
Description:
This is a part-time position at 20 hours per week, 40 weeks
per year. This is also a limited appointment position with
an end date of June 30, 2010. This position’s schedule is
Monday-Friday, 8:30-12:30; some evening and weekend work is
required.
The Office of Undergraduate Admissions recruits and selects
the University's undergraduate student body in the School of
Arts & Sciences and the School of Engineering. Each year,
the admissions staff designs and manages a recruitment plan
that attracts over 50,000 student inquiries; processes,
reads, evaluates and renders decisions on more than 15,000
applications for freshmen and transfer admission; and
enrolls a class of 1,275 freshmen and approximately 50-100
transfer students.
Reporting to Dean of Undergraduate Admissions, the
Admissions Officer & Counselor-in-Residence advises the Dean
on admission policy and practices from the perspective of a
guidance and college counselor. He/she serves as a resource
for the assessment of recruitment and marketing policies,
academic outcomes and retention for first-year students, and
programming for school personnel. In addition, the position
will initiate and manage a blog for college counselors on
the University’s “Counselor Connection” web site. General
administrative responsibilities include the full range of
highly-selective recruitment and selection activities. The
Admissions Officer & Counselor-in-Residence manages a
geographic recruitment territory; represents Tufts at visits
to high schools and college fairs around the country;
conducts group information presentations on campus and on
the road; reads and evaluates between 500-750 freshmen
applications; and serves on the selection committee.
Job Requirements
Basic Requirements:
* Bachelor’s degree
* Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in a
secondary school guidance or college counseling office
* Valid driver’s license
* Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel, HTML,
Microsoft FrontPage and related web technologies
* Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills;
demonstrated organizational prowess; a collegial impulse,
high energy and a sense of humor are valued. The successful
candidate must demonstrate the ability to articulate the
attributes and benefits of liberal arts and engineering
education with clarity and confidence; outstanding
interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrated
organizational and management prowess; and the ability to
work independently for concentrated periods
* Some domestic travel is required
Special Work Schedule Requirements: Moderate evening and
weekend work is required.
